Zumba Defined

Zumba is the new dance workout system that’s spreading over the country.

With various dance steps from meringue & salsa to bollywood & belly dancing they are put together into a program with a cool party atmosphere.

Zumba was crafted by Beto Perez from Latin America who one day did not remember the music for his aerobics class. All he had was a bunch of music CDs from his car. With that mixed bag of music the routine he led proved to be very well received and the rest is history.

It was discovered that countless members were feeling uncomfortable by the usual way of teaching a exercise class. So in comparison all Zumba classes are performed with no or minimal verbal queuing & with no pressure from the director to execute the steps properly.

The members in the class just mimic the steps the instructor is making but if they can’t or don’t desire to do that move, all they have to do is to do their own thing, keep moving & to have fun fun fun!

Zumba is good for anyone over the age of 16 and is great for all ranges of fitness and experience. But for people younger than that there is Zumbatomic. There’s no dress code (Spandex is NOT essential!).

Just take what you feel comfortable in but also remember you will get very hot! The best shoes to wear are ones that will give your foot support (similiar to an aerobic type shoe). It’s better not to wear a shoe that has too much grip because can create work on your knees.

People are instructed to bring a towel & a drink along with them since you’ll become extremely hot! There is a rest after every song allowing every one to get a quick drink of water before the party continues.

With Zumba programs showing up everywhere, communities are slowly starting to rock as if attacked by an earth quake, as dancers shimmy, shake & twirl to the awesome Latin songs that is Zumba Fitness.

Zumba is catching with many people having to go to 4 or 5 work outs per week because they appreciate the class SO much.

In an average hour long class, you will shed close to five hundred – six hundred calories but can use up to 800 if you pull all of the stops out.
