Zumba Defined

Zumba is the modern dance work out program that’s sweeping the region.

With various dance steps from meringue & salsa to bollywood & belly dancing they are mixed together in to a class with a wonderful party atmosphere.

Zumba was invented by Beto Perez from Columbia who one day forgot the music for his aerobics class. All he had was a selection of music CDs from his car. With that mixed bag of music the class he taught proved to be very popular & the rest is history.

It was discovered that numerous members were feeling uncomfortable by the usual style of instucting a exercise class. So in comparison all Zumba classes are performed with no or minimal verbal queuing & with no pressure from the director to execute the steps properly.

The members in the class just follow the routines the Zumba instuctor is executing but if they cannot or do not desire to do that technique, all they need to do is to do their own thing, keep moving & to have fun fun fun!

Zumba is excellent for dancers over the age of 16 and is suitable for all groups of fitness and experience. And for dancers younger than that there’s Zumbatomic. There’s no dress code (Lycra is NOT mandatory!).

Just use what you feel comfortable in but do bear in mind you will be extremely hot! The best shoes to bring are those that will assist your foot support (like an aerobic style shoe). It’s recommended not to bring a shoe that has too much grip as this can cause pressure on your knees.

People are asked to bring a towel & a water bottle along them since they will become extremely hot! There is a stop in between each track allowing every one to take a small shot of water before the exercise commences.

With Zumba instructors showing up everywhere, places are slowly starting to rock as if attacked by an earth quake, as people shimmy, shake & spin to the great Latin beats that is Zumba Fitness.

Zumba is contagious with a lot of people having to go to four or five lessons per week because they enjoy the class SO much.

In an average hour long lesson, you will shed around five hundred – six-hundred calories but can get as many as eight-hundred if you pull all of the stops out.
