Zumba is the modern dance work out system that’s sweeping the world.

With varied dance routines from meringue & salsa to bollywood & belly dancing they are blended together into a workout with a cool party atmosphere.

Zumba was crafted by Beto Perez from Columbia who one day forgot the music for his aerobics class. All he had was a selection of music CDs from his car. With that mixed bag of music the class he instructed proved to be very exciting & the rest is history.

It was discovered that a lot of people were intimidated by the old tactics of directing a cardio class. So in comparison all Zumba work outs are instructed with no or minimal verbal queuing & with no pressure from the teacher to perform the steps correctly.

The ladies in the class just mimic the techniques the trainer is performing but if they can not or don’t desire to do that move, all they have to do is to do their own thing, keep moving & to have fun fun fun!

Zumba is good for practitioners over the age of 16 and is great for all levels of fitness and experience. But for people younger than that there is Zumbatomic. There is no dress code (Spandex is NOT essential!).

Just take what you feel comfortable in but also don’t forget you’ll be very hot! The best shoes to wear are ones that will offer your foot support (like an aerobic type shoe). It’s better not to bring a shoe that has too much grip since can create pressure on your knees.

People are instructed to bring a towel & a drink with them because you’ll get very hot! There is a stop between each track allowing every body to take a fast drink of water before the party keeps going.

With Zumba instructors opening up everywhere,neighborhoods are slowly starting to rock as if attacked by an earth quake, as people shimmy, shake & move to the terrific Latin beats that is Zumba Fitness.

Zumba is addictive with many people having to go to 4 or 5 classes per week because they appreciate the system SO much.

In an average 1 hour long lesson, you will burn approximately five-hundred – six hundred calories but can get up to 800 when you pull all of the stops out.
